MÜRCİƏT  CƏNAB HƏSƏN AZƏRBAYCANIN DUSTAQLIQDAN BURAXDIĞI MƏKTUB

 

Cənab Həsən Azərbaycanın Təbriz Zindanından buraxdığı qaçağı məktubun tərcüməsini hüzurlarınıza təqdim edirik. Bu məktub 26 May 2006-dan bəri sizə vaxtaşırı göndərdiyimiz məktublarda qeydə alınan bilgilər ilə tamamlayıcıdır və onun hətta dişbatan durumda olmasına baxmayaraq birbaşa əhval-ruhiyyəsini əks etdirir.

 

Güney Azərbaycana qıyılan ədalətsizliyin ifadəsində cənab Azərbaycan dərin idrakını dilə gətirir və bu baxımdan iki havalı bir evdə “yetim millət” diyə yeni bir ibarə quraşdırır. O özü bu yetim millətimizin bir örnəyi kimi ortaya çıxır: ömrünü musiqiyə həsr etmiş 65 yaşlı bəstəkar; heç belə bir qanun da pozmamış; ürək xəstəliyinə məruz; qeyri qanuni tutuqlanaraq, bütün insan haqları tapdanmış və öz-xoşuna hökmlərə məruz ikən o cümlədən 50 şallaq da ona qarşı hökmü qıyılmış. İşə bax ki, cinayət törədənlər gərəkməyən sərbəstliyə uğramış və zalımlara da yetgili diyə xitab etmək zorundayıq.

 

Cənab Azərbaycana qıyılan faciənin dərinliyini oradan başa düşmək olar ki, Cənab Şatiriyan adda onun ömür-boyu bir dostunun ölüm yatağında görüşünə belə yetgililər izin verməyə də əngəl olmuşlar (ki 23 Septambr 2006-da dünyasını dəyişdi). Bu əngəlləmə sadəcə zalımcasına bir hərəkət idi ki, cənab Azərbaycanı nisgilə bürümək üçün idi. Heç sağlam düşüncəli insan belə bir zülmü zehnindən də keçirməz.

 

İnsan haqları bayrağı altında olan dünyamızla İran İslam Respublikasının Güney Azərbaycana qıydığı zülmlər aralarında bir müəyyən uyuşmazlıq var. Cənab Azərbaycan canlı olaraq bu uyuşmazlığın iki zülm örnəklərindən söz açdı: yetim millətin taleyi və son-görüşü ölüm-yatağındakı dostuna əngəlləmə. Bu duruma biz sadəcə “faşizmi keçindirmə” adı veririk, ki çağdaş tarixdə sabiqəsi yoxdur. Sizin cənab Azərbaycan uğrunda buraxdığınız təkcə bəyaniyyədən iticə xəbərdarıq (MDE 13/074/2006, Tarix: 29 İyun 2006) ki onu vicdan dustağı olmağa fikir oyatdınız və onun insan haqlarının dirçəlişi üçün kampaniya apardınız. İndi isə sözümüz budur ki, cənab Azərbaycanının durumunu və dünya icmasının sükutunu pozmaq üçün İranın yetgililərini faşist diyə ifşa etmək vaxtı gəlib çatmışdır.

 

Xeyir-verən və azarsız cənab Azərbaycanın boyun əyməzliyi insanlığın mənəvi aləmini bir daha qutlayır. Ümid edirik ki, onun həmən və şərtsiz buraxılması üçün bu zindandan gələn məktubun qüvvəti nəticəsində siz də aparmaq istədiyiniz kampaniyanı qabağa salasınız və bir mətbuat çıxışı da qeydə alasınız. Qabaqcadan sizdən təşəkkür edirik.

Re       THE FIRST LETTER BY MR. HESEN AZERBAIJAN SMUGGLED OUT OF TEBRIZ PRISON

 

Attached is the translation of the first letter, by Mr. Hesen Azerbaijan , smuggled out of Tebriz Prison. The letter supplements the information that we have been posting since his detention on 26 May 2006 with a direct insight into his mindset even during a time of vulnerability.

 

Mr. Azerbaijan articulates a thorough understanding by expressing the injustice inflicted on Southern Azerbaijan and coins a new expression of the orphaned nation caught between a hammer and an anvil. He exemplifies the fate of our orphaned nation: a 65 year old composer whose life has been devoted to music; who has not broken any laws; who suffers from heart problems; is detained illegally with all his rights disregarded and sentenced arbitrarily to, amongst other things, fifty lashes. Yet the culprits enjoy their undue freedom and the perpetrators are referred to as the authorities.

 

The depth of the tragedy of the case of Mr. Azerbaijan is seen in the withdrawal of permission by the authorities to allow him to visit his ailing lifelong musician friend, Mr. Shatiriyan, who passed away on 23 September 2006: a cruel act that was intended to hurt Mr. Azerbaijan in person. No one in their sound mind would commit such a sheer act of cruelty.

 

There is a certain inconsistency between the pursuance of human rights in the broader arena and the brutal rule that the Islamic Republic of Iran imposes upon Southern Azerbaijan . Mr. Azerbaijan recounts two instances of this brutality: the fate of the orphaned nation and disallowing him the farewell meeting. We call this “appeased fascism,” unprecedented in modern history. We are acutely aware of your single statement on (MDE 13/074/2006 on 29 June 2006) making a case to regard Mr. Azerbaijan as a prisoner of conscience and campaigning for the reinstatement of his human rights. We argue that the case of Mr. Azerbaijan and the silence of the world community are sufficient to expose the Iranian authorities as fascists.

 

The defiance of Mr. Azerbaijan , who is a benevolent individual and has done no harm to any individual, is a celebration of the human spirit. We hope that you will step up your campaign for the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Azerbaijan and will consider issuing a press release on the strength of his letter from prison. We thank you in advance.

THE TRANSLATION:

 

Yes to death No to Submission

I asked:

What is justice?

And what is it for that everyone keeps talking about?

He looked up and took a glimpse at me;

                 But failed to find a response;

Suddenly glowed with a flash of thought:

                 “O you mean Mr. Justice,

                 That was the name of a madman in our town;

                 Children used to throw stones at him.”

It is true that justice in our country is under a hail of stones (as if being stoned to death) and now is at the brink of life and death. That is why justice too is at the mercy of injustice. But I remain unsure; it looks as if this is only our fate, the “orphaned nation.” The fate of orphaned nations is also akin to an irony in a love theme captured by a poet complaining about his sweetheart in the following words:

 

Grace for the rival, spite for the lover – as if love is an irony!

 

We too are faced with an irony. A villain or two offended the honourable nation of our Azerbaijan ; and despite setting off a shock wave throughout its very fabric, now enjoys the grace of freedom. Likewise, the daily newspaper, Iran , has been cleared of any wrong doing and evidently will be republished in the near future. But I, diligently expressing my solidarity to my esteemed nation, took part in the May 2006 mass demonstrations with our numbers reaching a million in Tebriz. Our aim was only to defend the honour of our nation. Look at me, still imprisoned with fellow activists with the licence of my school of music revoked. This irony or inconsistency is captured in the proverb of caught between hammer and anvil. Our poet, the Great Shehriyar recognised this injustice and expressed it in the following terms:

 

O god, why to inflict so much suffering!

O Azerbaijan, how long more to endure the chain!

 

A nation deprived of its linguistic rights, endures sufferings just like me and this is how: I had a friend for fifty years, whose name was Mr. Shatiriyan. He was my dear friend and mentor and also a master of the stringed instrument, the “tar,” in Southern Azerbaijan . I requested temporary release for as short a period as an hour but only in vain. The irony is that while I was to lose my dearest friend and endure the nostalgia for my last meeting with him, a pain that shall always haunt me; yet the individual offending millions of Turks enjoys undue freedom. But what about the mounting abuse against the honour of our nation? I agree with our poet Sehend who wrote to Shehriyar:

 

O my dear poet, no worry even if our words are exiled

Then listen to the world and hear our echoes

Let your mind not be bored with the noise around

You can hear through them snapping chains and breaking cages

 

My dear compatriots, my aim in writing this letter is not to beg anyone for help but to address the conscientious souls in the world by uncovering the untold prejudice inflicted on Southern Azerbaijanis. As for me, I now stand up against injustice with the following mission:

 

Until the banishment of our invaders

Until ridding ourselves of their ill-deeds

We will keep on even if fire set upon us

We will not yield even at the expense of our lives

Mehemmed Huseyn Shehriyar (1906-87) – a classic poet who could not tolerate the systematic insult on his nation and led a new wave of revivalism in Southern Azerbaijani literature and created new genres.

Bulud Qarachurlu known as Sehend (1927-79) – a wealthy factory owner and a classic Azerbaijani poet, emerged as a glimmer of hope when national consciousness of Southern Azerbaijan was deep in coma.
