Re                 MR. QULAMRZA EMANI IS IN HUNGER STRIKE                 

We take it for granted that you are fully aware of the grave situation inflicted on Southern Azerbaijan . In spite of jailing thousands of our compatriots, their illegal detention by Iranian authorities is escalating. Because of the cramping of so many innocent people in the detention centre, their conditions are extremely bad.

Mr. Qulamrza Emani, who suffered four years of imprisonment (1999-2003) for his upholding the idea of Azerbaijanism, has been illegally under detention for the last five days. He is protesting for this against the authorities’ arbitrary measures by the remaining singular option – the hunger strike. He is not the only one but many others have also resorted to hunger strike and their conditions are extremely concerning.

We are enclosing the translation of the statement by ASMEK on this matter together with the source document for your urgent attention.

We are desperately requesting you to play your role to create a front against these ongoing crimes.
